Vermont’s Upland Game

Premium ruffed grouse habitat abounds in Vermont. The grouse, which in these parts is more commonly referred to as a partridge, can be found in berry patches, thick poplar slash, beechnut ridges, and apple orchards in the fall of the year. Each of these habitat types can be found throughout this region of Vermont, with many exceptional abandoned orchards close to our base camp. Another common visitor to Vermont is the woodcock or timberdoodle. This species prefers early successional cover and moist ground. Some fantastic woodcock hunting occurs in the fall as they begin their migration South.
