Vermont’s Big Game

There are some excellent opportunities in Vermont to tag deer, bear, moose and turkey.

White-tailed deer - We hunt this species several different ways during bow and arrow, rifle, and muzzle loader season:

  • Hunting over food plots from blinds and tree stands
  • Setting up stands over fresh deer sign
  • Using 4x4 vehicles to locate fresh tracks and then go on foot after an individual deer
  • Occasional controlled deer drives

Turkey- This game bird is thriving in Vermont and can be hunted in the fall and the spring. The use of decoys, calls, and hunting over food plots are some of the techniques that we use to kill these tasty birds.

Black Bear- This is another common creature up here in Vermont. The most common way that they are hunted around here is with bear dogs, however targeting apple orchards, beech nut ridges, and cornfields in the fall can be very productive.

Moose- The wild cow of the north country is common throughout central and northern Vermont. Hunts are regulated by a lottery system.
